What is a crusher and destemmer?

At Beer & Wine Hobby we place our crusher/destemmer on a stand (shown) and all the grape drops into a chute, which fills a 5 or 6 gallon bucket. The bucket holds about one case (36 lb.) of grape, which we can either re-crush (in the case of small grapes) or place into the fermenter or press, as appropriate.

Rather than of placing the crusher on top of the fermenting tub, usually a high reach to load grapes, you place the crusher on this waist-high stand. With the top of the crusher easily accessible, crushed fruit flows into 6 gallon pails placed under the chute. You can then load the grapes into larger fermenting tubs.
